South East Fermanagh Foundation (SEFF) is a group of victims from the community of South East Fermanagh which was formed in 1999 as a result of identified needs amongst those who have been the innocent victims of paramilitary terrorism in this part of N Ireland, together with their families. The group is non-party political, and is not aligned to any religious body. The area covered is the Erne East electoral ward of Fermanagh District Council. |
The group came into being initially to highlight the plight of countless 'forgotten victims' who have been overlooked, whether intentionally or unintentionally, by a large section of society. They are just some 'forgotten' victims of the 'troubles' and have been ignored by our political and church leaders, and dismised as irrelevant by national and international governments. Members felt the need to talk about what they have suffered at the hands of terrorists to others who have had similar experiences, to be listened to symphatetically, and to do so in a safe environment. We give people the opportunity to work through some important issues and problems they may have with the help and support of specially trained counsellors, which is urgently required by some. Others have benefited the 'listening ear' service available and we are currently working on a befriending for victims and their families if they request it. OUR AIM is to care and support all those who have been injured or suffered trauma in any way as a result of terrorist activity during the 'troubles'.
Reaching our Goals SEFF has established informed relationships with governments and statutory bodies, and meet with the decision-makers in the N Ireland, UK and European parliaments. We encourage our people to tell their story to the media at every opportunity as it helps some victims to come to terms with the indescribable violence they have faced, and the losses they have sustained. Trained members in the area of listening skills are available for victims with along with the drop-in centre for those who need support/help or just fancy a chat is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Later appointments can be arranged to suit people outside these times if needed. The Core Aim of SEFF We aim to :- Promote Christian tolerance and understanding Be a voice for the innocent victims of paramilitary terrorism Seek justice for these victims Seek formal recognition of their suffering Provide support and advice for our members Encourage and support community action at neighbourhood and area level Develope projects/programmes in response to local needs Provide a free confidential impartial and welfare rights service Speaking and acting for the innocent victims of paramilitary terrorism in South East Fermanagh
