The Northern Ireland Rethink Waste Revenue Fund 2010-11 has been launched by Department of the Environment Northern Ireland and is being administered by WRAP.
The purpose of this revenue funding programme is to improve resource efficiency and increase diversion of waste from landfill through prevention, reuse and recycling.

18 August 2010, VOICES FUND - Participation for Social Justice
The Voices Fund has been established in recognition that there are voices and issues within society that are rarely heard, resulting in disadvantage and exclusion. It aims to offer funding for locally based projects that are run by, and for people who may be experiencing some form of disadvantage and/or marginalisation. The Voices Fund hopes to give voice to local experience and issues.
Amount of Funding available
Grants will be awarded up to a maximum of £5,000. The Fund will allocate some £60,000 over 2010/2011 in a range of small grants.

Are you the founder or the driving force behind a social enterprise or a not-for-profit organisation that makes a real difference? Could you convince us that you have what it takes to lift your project to the next stage? If so UnLtd - the
Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs is keen to hear from you.
You must have a proven track record of social impact and financial growth as well as a clearly defined vision for the future.
The UnLtd 'Level 2' award consists of up to £15,000 to meet personal living expenses or project costs as well as dedicated business support over a twelve month period. UnLtd expects to be able to add value to every project we fund, so we need to be
convinced that our investment of time and money is necessary and will deliver long lasting social change.
The competition takes place twice a year and the autumn round will open shortly. The application form is available online from 31st August, but you can refer now to the 'Apply for Level 2' page on www.UnLtd.org.uk for sample questions that you will need to address. The web-site also gives details of the eligibility criteria and some case studies of Level 2 awardees.

Groups accross Northern Ireland can now apply for more funding from Awards for All.
Grants of between £500 and £10,000 are on offer to give community, voluntary and statutory groups the chance to run projects to improve local peoples lives. And those who have already received Lottery cash are welcome to apply for a second time*.
* Groups can now apply for grants of up to £20,000 in a 12-month period to organise projects, but can only hold one award (up to £10,000) ay any one time, and the organisation must have spent the grant before applying for more funding.

The Community Foundation for Northern Ireland is offering Small Grants ranging from £500 to £1,000 for community arts projects.
Aims of the Funding
To support grassroots arts initiatives that foster a shared future and that promote the inclusion of the new immigrants, asylum-seekers and their families as well as travellers
To give community and arts organisations the opportunity to develop small scale, new or innovative inclusive projects that will make a difference at local level
To fund small community arts projects addressing a shared future through a range of community arts approaches that will serve as models of good practice and learning
To encourage communities that experience difficulties with cultural and ethnic diversity to use community arts as a way to take up the challenge of social inclusion
Guidelines
Participants should be involved in planning the project.
Only small scale projects will be considered. This grant is not intended to form a small part of a large project.
Applicant organisations should have a constitution or be linked to a constituted organisation.
Applicants must complete a Community Foundation Small Grants Application form in full.
Applicants should state clearly what they propose to do, who will be involved, the cost and how much they need from this Community Arts Fund.
Applications should state a timetable for delivering the project.
The project must be carried through within one year of being offered funding.
What they will not fund:
Projects for individuals or for private companies
Projects that do not have a high level of user participation
Statutory organisations
General appeals
Projects promoting party politics or a particular religion
Retrospective applications where the project is complete
Projects fully funded from other sources
Capital costs
Organisation running costs
Continuation of salaried positions
Overseas travel
Decision Making
Applications will be assessed using a formal process.
Preference will be given to projects that involve more disadvantaged communities
Preference will be given to projects that demonstrate a cross community approach.
Proposals that evidence high levels of participation will score higher.
The decision of Community Foundation Trustees is final.
There are no set deadlines - applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
Please note: Grant applications should be made at least two months before project start date.

21 July 2010, Community Wildlife - Big Lottery Fund
This new programme will fund projects that bring local people together to discover, enjoy or protect the wildlife in their local area.
The programme will fund between £300 and £10,000 for projects that:
improve rural or urban environments for people to enjoy, for example by:
protecting wildlife habitatsget people more active and healthier, for example by:
creating a nature trail, woodland walk or wildlife garden for people to enjoy
improving natural community spaces, such as rivers, ponds and woodlands.
exploring parks, rivers and the countryside to look for rare or endangered species
encouraging people to take up gardening or go on nature walks
providing opportunities for children to learn about nature through play.

21 July 2010, Grants Programme - The Hedley Foundation
The Hedley Foundation was set up in 1971 and supports young people, the disabled and the terminally ill. The foundation has assetts of £20 million.
The main objective of the Trustees' grant-making is to assist and encourage development and change. It follows that most grants will be of capital or one-off nature, but the Trustees sometimes agree to help fund the introduction of new and innovative projects with a series of up to 3 annual grants.
The average grant is £3,000 with few grants exceeding £5,000.
Most grants go to charities where they can make an impact rather than large or national appeals.
Within the main objective, the Foundation makes grants according to its published criteria, which are reviewed from time to time.
Main objective (currently about 70% of the Foundation's budget)
Young people: their education, recreation, support, training, health and welfare,
Subsidiary objectives
Disabled people and the terminally ill: provision of specialist equipment and support for carers,
Type of Grant:
Grants for specific projects only, mostly one-off, but no core revenue, salary or transport funding. The Foundation makes a limited number of recurring grants for up to three years.
Type of Beneficiary:
Registered charities only within the UK, never individuals.
Applications for grants should be made on the foundation's application form which can be downloaded from the website.

Lloyds TSB Grants - Lloyds TSB Foudation for Northern Ireland
The Foundation allocates its funds in support of the Northern Ireland community, to enable people, primarily those in need, to be active members of society and to improve their quality of life.
The Foundation has two main target areas to which it seeks to allocate funds.
Social and Community needs
A wide range of activities are supported and the following are meant as a guide only.
*Community Services: Family Centres, Youth and Older People's Clubs, After Schools Clubs, Play Schemes, Help Groups, Child Care Provision.
*Advice Services:Homelessness, Addictions, Bereavement, Family Guidance, Money Advice, Helplines.
*Disabled People: Residences, Day Centres, Transport, Carers, Information & Advice, Advocacy.
*Promotion of Health: Information and Advice, Mental Health, Hospices, Day Care, Home Nursing, Independent Living for Older People.
*Civic Responsibility: Juveniles at Risk, Crime Prevention, Promotion of Volunteering, Victim Support, Mediation, Rehabilitation of Offenders.
*Cultural Enrichment: Improving participation in and access to the arts and national heritage for disadvantaged and disabled people
Education & Training
The objective in this area is to enhance educational opportunities for disadvantaged and disabled people of all ages.
* Projects which help socially excluded people develop their potential and secure employment.
* Employment training (for disabled and disadvantaged people)
* Promotion of life skills, independent living skills for disabled people.
* Enhancing education for disabled young people, pre-school education, literacy skills (where no other support is available).
How to Apply
The Board meet to consider applications during the first week of March, June, September and December. The closing dates for the receipt of applications are the second Friday of January, April, July and October.
Request an application form and guidelines from their office or alternatively they can be downloaded from their website. The guidelines detail the areas they fund, while the Advice on Completing the Application Form takes you through the form question by question.
It is important to consider the guidelines carefully before completing the application form. They will be more than happy to assist you with any aspect of the process.They can only accept requests for funding on the official application form.
They welcome the opportunity to discuss projects with applicants before submission to the Trustees. This will help to ensure that the project is within the criteria and provides an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the application process.

24 June 2010, The Big Lottery Fund has launched its Reaching Out programmes
The Big Lottery Fund has launched its Reaching Out programmes - Empowering Young People and Connecting Older People - which will aim to invest up to £40 million to support older people and young people at risk.
Big Lottery Fund marked the launch of the new programmes with the Big Debate, an event to discuss the main issues facing older and young people most at risk in NI communities.
Empowering Young People is a £20 million programme that will award grants of £100,000 - £500,000 to projects that could support young people who are in care, who are involved in crime, or have been removed from education. Young people must be involved in designing, developing and running projects.

15 June 2010, Comic Relief UK Grant Programme - Cycle 4 Now Open to Applications
Comic Relief's UK Grant Programme aims to bring about positive and lasting change in the lives of poor and disadvantaged people in the UK by investing in work that addresses people's immediate needs, as well as tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice.
Registered charities and voluntary organisations (including social enterprises and community interest companies) in the UK are invited to apply for grants of between £25,000 and £40,000.
