ADoPT (Association for the Development of Pettigo & Tullyhommon) was founded in 1991 to address the economic and social development of the Pettigo & Tullyhommon area. Early last year, ADoPT were successful in securing funding from Border Action under the Peace II extension to "Establish a process of ongoing regeneration in all aspects of life in Pettigo & Tullyhommon and support the creation of community structures that have the capacity to work towards developing themselves on an ongoing basis on a cross border, cross community basis".

Over the past sixteen years, ADoPT has spearheaded an Environmental Improvement Programme; sponsored FAS Community Employment Schemes and provided outreach services.   ADoPT has also played a pivotal role in the provision of health care through liaison with the North Western Health Board which provides a doctors surgery and health centre in a building owned by ADoPT.

Since ADoPT’s inception, the group have been proactive in sourcing funding for the community, from spearheading an Environmental Improvement Programme through to sponsoring the FAS Community Employment Schemes.  Earlier this year, ADoPT were successful in securing funding from Border Action under the Peace II extension to:

`Establish a process of ongoing regeneration in all aspects of life in     Pettigo & Tullyhommon and support the creation of community structures that have the capacity to work towards developing themselves on an ongoing basis on a cross border, cross community basis`.

This funding has allowed for the provision of a Community Development Worker and Administrator to work alongside the groups on the ground in implementing these projects, notably:

  •  Magic Art Project
  •  Little Smarties Summer Scheme
  •  Borderline Players Drama Group
  • Youth Project
  • Cross Border 55+ Club
  •  History Project
  • Community Council

Other projects which ADoPT are currently pursuing include the renovation of the old Mill for the provision of workspace; development of a communal forest walk; and to spearhead any potential infrastructure developments of the village.
